They’re still in the works: Reports suggest Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Ports Rumored for Current Consoles and Switch 2

There are ongoing discussions regarding the development of a version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for both the Nintendo Switch 2 and modern consoles. This anticipated “remaster” has been the subject of speculation for quite some time.

Having launched as a significant title for the previous generation, there was wide expectation that the game would be transitioned to newer platforms, similar to the evolution of Grand Theft Auto 5 from its original Xbox 360 and PS3 release to updated versions for PS4 and Xbox One.

Despite these expectations, no official announcements have been made. Recently, a source known for accurately sharing gaming news, NateTheHate2, confirmed via a post on X that these coveted ports indeed “exist,” but he did not provide any specific details regarding their release timeline.

“Yes, they exist. I have no update on timing for release.”

Adding to the excitement, rumors earlier in the year suggested that this iconic cowboy saga would be part of Take-Two’s broader strategies to support Nintendo’s upcoming hardware.

A Glimpse into the Legacy of Red Dead Redemption 2

Initially launched in October 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, Red Dead Redemption 2 found its way to PC in November 2019. It has since become celebrated for its storytelling, expansive world, and character development.

Notably, former Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser recently expressed that he regarded Red Dead Redemption 2 as his finest work during his tenure at the studio. Throughout his career, Houser, alongside his brother Sam, played an instrumental role in the creation of twelve titles in the Grand Theft Auto series, beginning with the expansion, Grand Theft Auto: London 1969, and culminating with Grand Theft Auto 5.

Alongside these contributions, he also worked on significant titles such as Bully, Max Payne 3, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, and Red Dead Online. Leaving Rockstar in 2020 marked a pivotal point in his career as he established a new venture known as Absurd Ventures.
