The highly anticipated first paid DLC pack for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is now officially released.

This pack draws inspiration from the beloved Minecraft universe and offers an array of exciting new content:

  • Playable characters:
    • Steve
    • Alex
    • Creeper
  • A Minecart vehicle
  • A new stage themed around Minecraft, titled Minecraft World
  • Six unique decals for the Minecart

The Minecraft Pack is available for individual purchase at $5.99 / £4.99. Alternatively, players can opt for the Season Pass priced at $29.99 / £24.99, which includes a total of six DLC packs that are set to be released over time.

For those who have purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, the Season Pass is included, offering immediate access to this pack without additional cost.

Online Matchmaking and Race Flexibility

To promote inclusive online racing, players without the Minecraft Pack will still be able to race on the Minecraft World course. This allows for a seamless experience, enabling all players to compete together regardless of their character selection.

Future Content Roadmap

This DLC marks the beginning of a series of updates, with five more packs confirmed for future release. Coming up in November is a SpongeBob SquarePants DLC pack, followed by additional packs featuring characters from Pac-Man, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and Avatar Legends.

Monthly Free Character Additions

In addition to the paid content, the game also plans to introduce free monthly crossover characters from Sega. The first of these, Hatsune Miku, is already available, with Joker from Persona slated to arrive later this month, and Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon expected in November. A physical box for the game hints at the arrival of the character Nights as well.

Critical Reception

Reviews for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds indicate it serves as a satisfying alternative to the evolving Mario Kart formula. A recent review praises the game, noting it as “a brilliant karting experience with enjoyable handling, a unique portal mechanic, and effective customization options.” While some criticism exists regarding the impact of weapons and long-term engagement potential, it stands out as a classic karting option amidst Nintendo’s new direction.
