Putrid Ducts in Hollow Knight: Silksong – How to Access the Zone and Find the Map

Welcome to one of the sneakily well-concealed parts of Silksong, where the air is so toxic it could be a contestant on a reality show about the dangers of poor life choices. What better way to journey through this treacherous land than with a guide that not only points the way but also sprinkles in some humor to keep the despair at bay? So, strap on your bug-eyed goggles and dive into the murky waters of gaming adventure!

Navigating through the festering zones in this game is not just challenging; it’s like trying to walk a dog on a windy day—frustration guaranteed. After tackling the mind-bending map of the Bilesac, the Putrid Ducts could make grown men weep.

How to Enter the Putrid Ducts

  • First on the agenda? Unlock Chansoir, the First Sanctuary, located in the upper right corner of the Choir Alcoves within the Citadel. Not too tricky, unless finding your car keys is a challenge.
  • Complete various wishes displayed on the First Sanctuary board. Tracking down the Wandering Merchant should be the top priority. If only shopping sprees across the street were this thrilling.
  • Jubilana? She’s hanging out in a cozy little room at the bottom left of the Citadel. Chat her up, and she’ll offer her overpriced wares at the First Sanctuary. Consider engaging in a farming bonanza for Pearls to clear her inventory. Don’t worry; it’s all in the name of love… or treasure.
  • Upon completing most of the wishes on the board, the Wandering Merchant will mysteriously vanish, leading to the new quest: The Lost Merchant. Once that wish is lit up, the gates of Putrid Ducts shall swing open, provided a keen eye is used to find it.

The Trail to the Putrid Ducts

  • This brave merchant will guide on the journey to this mysterious new area. First stop: the Memoria, located just above the upper corridor of the Citadel. A double jump is required to reach the entrance. Enter the Memoria and start sniffing around for the faint scent of the merchant; it’s like playing a bizarre game of hide and seek. Remember to utilize the Bench!
  • To follow Jubilana, leap through a hidden opening in the ceiling. The scent trail will be your guiding light. Zip through an open window to the great outdoors where oversized moths have decided to stage a hostile takeover against our poor merchant. Brace for two waves of monstrous mayhem!
  • After a delightful chat with the merchant, continue sauntering to the right. Collect a trinket at the foot of the cliff. As improbable as it seems, the entry point to the Putrid Ducts is glaringly above you. Use an expert combination of Air Grapple and double jump to reach a destructible wall, and smash it down as if it had wronged you in a past life.
  • Once inside the tunnel, keep leaping through a thicket of thorns before the grand unveiling of the new zone. Because nothing screams “fun” like dodging deadly vegetation!

Bench and Fast Travel Point in the Putrid Ducts

Finding the map is, unfortunately, akin to a scavenger hunt in a landfill. However, securing a safe spot with all the necessities—a Bench and a Fast Travel Point—can make exploration significantly less traumatic. To find this sanctuary, navigate through the large room filled with lumbering behemoths and tentacle-covered abominations. Take the first exit to the right once within the great vertical duct.

Map of the Putrid Ducts

As previously mentioned, the quest for the map will require some elbow grease. Descend into the vertical hall. Opt for the second left door, since the first one is unceremoniously boarded up. Beware of the tentacles on this treacherous path. Upon arriving at the far left of the room, jump! Tentacles may ensnare Hornet, but fret not—it’s all for her own good! The intent is not to film a peculiar Japanese fantasy scene but rather to traverse the spikes adorning the duct walls. Hammer the attack button once at the top of the duct to free oneself while adding an eyebrow-raising twist to the game. A cheeky nod to Half-Life, by the way.

Once liberated from the clutches of those cheeky tentacles, simply consult the map to the right of the room—complimentary, of course! With this nifty tool, exploration will be much easier, though it’s fair warning that facing off against the incessant mosquitoes will still likely lead to a case of the grumps.
