Luckily, this guide is here to navigate the murky waters of this bizarre quest, loaded with puzzles and inquiries that almost require a degree in mushroom studies.

Venturing through Act 3 of Hollow Knight Silksong is like trying to manage a cat in a rave: chaotic and overwhelming. And here comes a riddle on top of that for extra fun? All the answers, clues, and necessary info to fulfill this dubious desire are nestled right here.

Getting Started with the Happy Mushroom Wish

This wish isn’t going to come to those who wait! The elusive Mr. Mushroom won’t appear on a convenient signpost. The prerequisites are as strict as a bouncer in a nightclub.

  • First, be in Act 3 of your adventure. This means dusting off the skeletons of old bosses, completing the “Silk and Soul Wish,” and besting the Overgrown Mother. Again.
  • Acquire the Silk Rush ability in the Abyss. That means following the main goals of Act 3 like a good little adventurer.
  • Head all the way right to the Putrid Conduits and Pucetopia, right at the Pale Lake’s edge. Position oneself just below the vertical conduit before utilizing that fancy Silk Rush. No pressure, though!
  • A verdant kingdom of mushrooms, complete with a mysterious stele, awaits! Consult the stele to kick off this wild quest.

Where on Earth (or Hollow Knight land) to Solve the Age Passage Puzzle?

The locations dictated by the stele are a hard and fast order to follow. Miss a spot, and it’s like trying to clap with one hand—absolutely nothing will happen. Seek out the blue mushrooms on the ground and then play some tunes nearby with that handy button (Y/Triangle). The melody should continue until Mr. Mushroom makes an appearance from his subterranean hideaway.

  • The first stop is a delightful corridor above the Chapel, just to the left of the Bone Pit. Who knew bones could be so stylish?
  • The second stop is merely a hop away. Seek the ruins of Bone Pit. A mushroom circle reigns in the favorite hangout spot of Shakra the Cartographer—up on a ledge to the right side of the village.
  • Next, move to the far right of the Far Lands, where another revelation is waiting for discovery on a cute little platform.
  • For the fourth strophe of this riddle, climb up to the entrance of the Firefly Grove, way up high in the Duskvale region.
  • The fifth rendezvous is more challenging. Enter The Block with the Heretic’s Key. Explore until three keys are located. There’s no need to battle the original sin boss, as Mr. Mushroom can be culled from the left.
  • The sixth riddle requires another climb of the Mount Fay. Mr. Mushroom patiently waits atop, beside the very bird that grants the Double Jump power. No music needed here—just good vibes.
  • The last and undoubtedly trickiest step awaits; brace for the notorious platforming challenge—welcome to Silksong’s mini white palace! Approach with patience and maybe a coffee because this is not for the faint-hearted. Firstly, position oneself precisely as shown on the screenshot below in the Chorale Alcoves of the Citadel before employing the Silk Rush. That air vent can be sneaky—almost invisible and very thin!
  • Scale to the summit of the Cradle. The path mirrors the beginning of Act 3 but in reverse. It will take you to the severed arm of the Silk Mother. A new power can be extracted, but surprise, surprise—it has nothing to do with the Age Passage. Shocking, right?
  • Once again, position oneself meticulously like the image displays. A tiny hole resides in the ceiling, and entering demands precision. Use the Silk Rush to enter the following cave.
  • Then comes the infamous platforming hell! Optimize all climbing tools at the last bench along the way. There are little worms to be used for Silk and life regeneration. Remember to defeat at least one of each enemy for that sweet, sweet codex!
  • Once the mushroom circle is reached, serenade it with a little tune to summon the Herald and complete the wish. And guess what? No immediate reward will be handed over. Patience is a virtue here. The trophy unlocks when the final boss of Act 3 is defeated, featured in the ending cinematic!

Bonus Round: The Surface

  • Before descending, feel free to pursue that climbing itch one more time—it leads to the world’s surface in the nameless village. Encounter a new breed of enemy to add to the bestiary. Also, strut to the far-right corner of the village to play a melody in the ruins (Down + Y/Triangle). A memory will tumble to the ground, though surprising it may be, this has absolutely nothing to do with the Age Passage. But if climbing there a second time isn’t mean, what is?
  • A small tunnel quickly takes one back to the previous bench. A fast shortcut, in case anything was forgotten during that epic expedition.
