Borderlands 3 Guide: Vehicles and Customization

Day by day, we inch closer to the highly anticipated release of Borderlands 3. We know you can’t wait to dive in! If you’re eager to learn everything there is to know about the game, you’re in the right place. Explore our article focusing on vehicles and their customization options within the game. Beware of spoilers!

We hope you have completed the latest DLC for Borderlands 2, “Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary,” as it updates all the necessary information and prepares you for Borderlands 3. By the way, for those who may not have heard, our beloved Scooter is no more… Sadly, it’s the end of AUUTOOLOOOOC, our good old buddy… After getting over the emotional blow, let’s focus on Ellie’s Catch-A-Ride. She has revamped her brother’s vehicle system to make it even better.

Catch-A-Ride: Your New Best Friend

This is where you scan, customize, and upgrade your vehicles. The system is significantly more comprehensive than in the previous title. In this installment, you can loot enemy vehicles to obtain parts and skins for your Catch-A-Ride. How does it work?

You can use the interaction button near an interested vehicle to “borrow” it. You take the driver’s seat while ejecting any enemy driver that might be inside. You then bring the vehicle back to your Catch-A-Ride, which scans it to extract its components. That’s how you unlock new parts for your own vehicles.

Important Notes:

  • The vehicle combat experience has been enhanced, thanks in part to the transition to Unreal Engine 4 and the development of new physics mechanics concerning vehicles.
  • You can fast travel directly to your vehicle from your personal menu.
  • Currently, developers have stated that skins can be collected from looted vehicles through rewards from NPCs after completing challenges (similar to the “Brutasse” system from the previous title).

A Bit of Speculation

We can’t wrap up this guide without a bit of speculation. Here are some theories circulating online that might just come to fruition once the game is released:

  • Enemies (especially psychos) could jump onto your moving vehicle (think Mad Max) to try and take you out even quicker!
Borderlands 3

  • A flying vehicle in Ellie’s Catch-A-Ride? It’s a possibility, referencing the first teaser of Borderlands 3. A sort of ship has appeared multiple times, and Ellie seems to be playing around with it. We’ll have to stay tuned!
