As you journey through Borderlands 3, you’ll encounter increasingly powerful gear, including enhanced versions of legendary items linked to Chaos mode and potentially max level equipment. Here’s what you need to know about Anointed gear and its significance in the endgame.
After completing the main storyline of Borderlands 3 and activating Chaos Mode, you’ll start discovering gear that is marked as “Anointed“. This special gear offers additional powers linked to your current character class and their active skills. While these bonuses typically appear on blue or purple gear, they can actually manifest on any type of equipment, from common (white) items to legendary (orange) loot. The latter is particularly valuable, as it enhances already powerful gear, and if you’re aiming for the top-tier items, you’re likely going to want to hunt down an Anointed version of a specific legendary, such as the much sought-after and extraordinarily powerful Conference Call shotgun.
Obtaining Anointed Legendary Items in Borderlands 3
To get started, activate Chaos Mode aboard the Sanctuary ship, especially the third tier if you’re feeling particularly brave, though the first tier is sufficient for a decent start. We recommend tackling the Ultimate Hunter mode as well. Make sure to reach level 50 to unlock all the special mail rewards related to your edition of the game, which include legendary rewards based on your current level. When you open these packages in Chaos 3 mode, you’ll have a solid chance of obtaining Anointed level 50 legendary gear, as we experienced with one of our shields.
It’s also advisable to only use your Golden Keys under these circumstances to maximize your chances of unlocking the best possible legendary items and keeping them in your inventory. Below, you’ll find screenshots showcasing some Anointed legendaries we’ve managed to find.
