Money makes the world go round! In Borderlands 3, you’ll need a lot of cash to upgrade your inventory and purchase rare weapons and gear from vending machines. Here’s a comprehensive guide with tips on how to accumulate wealth quickly.
Picking up loot is essential in Borderlands 3, but spending is equally important. Whether you are visiting Moxxi, using the various vending machines, or especially upgrading your inventory with Marcus on Sanctuary 3, you’ll find these upgrades can be quite pricey. You’ll likely spend around 2.2 million dollars on each legendary upgrade in every category, totaling a staggering 32,800,000 dollars when you include intermediate upgrades. That’s a substantial amount of cash, so let’s explore how to gather it all.
Leveling Up
First off, it’s noteworthy that the amount of cash found increases as your level goes up. Naturally, you’ll find much more at level 50 than at level 10. Thus, it will take time to unlock everything, so it’s essential to be strategic about where to invest your funds during your journey.
Once you’ve completed the main story, you can activate Chaos Mode, which will significantly boost the amount of loot you gather.
Defeating Enemies
Enemies often drop cash, but some creatures are like walking treasure chests, similar to the treasure goblins in Diablo 3. They come with a loot modifier, such as Tink the Loot or Jacassos the Loot, and they don’t fight back. However, if you take too long to defeat them, they will escape. Upon their defeat, you’re rewarded with a shower of cash and items, and sometimes a loot sack to open.
Looting Containers
Boxes, washing machines, toilets, cupboards, and chests usually contain wads of cash. If it’s green, you can open it. You can quickly pass through areas and spam your action button to open these containers and collect the precious bills. This practice will pay off over time, especially when leveling up your Guardian rank.
Using the Right Grenades
There are various grenades with special abilities that can spawn cash when they hit enemies. Legendary versions can be remarkably generous. This can be an effective way to kill two birds with one stone—utilize them regularly against groups of enemies.
Completing Side Quests
The numerous side quests and crew challenges scattered across different zones, such as locating Typhon’s recordings, are generally quick to complete and can offer decent rewards. While you probably won’t earn millions, it’s probably better to finish the main storyline first if you are focused on optimization. However, this is a good short-term strategy.
Selling Gear
Make sure to pick up items lying around, even the white ones, especially heavy weapons like rocket launchers, as they sell for significantly more. Ideally, you should approach every new vendor with a full inventory as you progress through the story. If you’re running low on space for valuable items, feel free to drop less valuable items on the ground.
As you level up, the value of items increases to outrageous amounts (30,000 – 100,000 dollars in some cases at level 50).
Prioritizing increasing your backpack size with Marcus will allow you to carry more items and consequently sell more.
Exploits and Loot Fountains
It may not be the most honorable approach, but if you are impatient or have encountered save issues, you might be tempted to use an exploit in Borderlands 3 that theoretically allows for an unlimited amount of cash, although you’ll need to reach a certain level to fully benefit from it—unless a wealthy friend can lend a hand.
