Nuketown in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: Release Date, New Features, and Everything You Need to Know About the Iconic Map’s Return

The most-played and beloved map by fans is soon to return in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Here’s when it will be available, what version it is, and the game modes you can expect.

It’s a moment of nostalgia that all fans are eagerly awaiting: the iconic map Nuketown is indeed making its return in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and here’s all you need to know about it.

When Will Nuketown Be Available in Black Ops 6?

The game launched on Friday, October 25, 2024, and Activision has kept fans on the edge of their seats as Nuketown has yet to be included in the map rotation. Luckily, the publisher has released information through their X account:

  • Nuketown will arrive on Black Ops 6 this Friday, just one week after the game’s launch.

What Changes Can We Expect on Nuketown?

The version of Nuketown that will be available is from the original game (from the very first Black Ops), as explained by Adam Hoggatt, the game’s level designer:

“We put all the most fun things we could think of on the map. There’s the doomsday clock, an engineer helped to wire the first mannequin Easter Egg, and the audio department told us, ‘Hey, we have this Rolling Stones song that we acquired the license for and we have nowhere to use it,’ so we put it in there. The rest is part of the story.”

There will therefore be no additions as this is a remaster of the original map rather than a remake, but according to data miners, the “Nuketown 24/7” mode will reportedly return, featuring a standard and hardcore version day and night. Expect Team Deathmatches, Domination, and various other game modes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Historically, Nuketown is one of the most iconic maps in the Black Ops franchise, first appearing in the 2010 release of Call of Duty: Black Ops. Its setting is quite unique: the map is situated in a nuclear testing town in the Nevada desert (a recreation), with symmetrical sides featuring a house on each and buses in the middle to break the line of sight. Over the years, we’ve seen multiple variations of this map, ranging from a 1950s look to a totally futuristic version, even a special map for the Zombies mode that showcased a post-apocalyptic Nuketown.

At this stage, it’s merely speculation, but it’s possible that Nuketown will serve as the Shipment of Black Ops 6 (Shipment being an iconic map from the Modern Warfare series), with various iterations throughout the life cycle of Treyarch’s title. This could mean that players might get to experience a festive Nuketown decked out for Christmas or a themed version celebrating Independence Day, complete with the colors of the USA.
